Kirk started off playing baseball from a very young age in Owen Sound, starting with T-Ball and eventually making his way to softball, which he played for a few seasons. He then decided that he wanted to try baseball and immediately fell in love. Coach John Kosempel pulled some strings to get him into the league (despite the season having already started) which Kirk was extremely grateful for. Kirk played a few seasons in Owen Sound before he started training with Trevor Nyp (infield coach for the Los Angeles Angels) which required travelling to Kitchener twice a week, and the results were apparent. Kirk improved drastically to the point where Trevor suggested he try out for a team in the Canadian Premier Baseball League (CPBL) called the Ontario Nationals.
Kirk played with the Nationals for my 14u and 15u seasons, where he was amongst the team leaders in all offensive stats. He then took a year to himself for the 16u season due to restrictions from the pandemic. However, he picked the passion right back up when one of his former teammates in Owen Sound, Quinn Johnson, presented him with an offer to try out for another elite program in the Toronto area, called the Ontario Giants.
Kirk played for the Giants for his 17u season and won player of the week every week of the season, hitting just shy of .500. Kirk then got in contact with the Titans Baseball Club (out of Newmarket) and was rostered to the team for his 18u season.
In his year with the titans, Kirk was recognized as team MVP, and was committed to continue playing baseball at the collegiate level.
Kirk's first college season wasn’t what he was hoping for, dealing with 2 injuries during the season, but he was named a First Team Academic All-American.
During the summer, Kirk came home to play for the Owen Sound Baysox, where he was recognized as an all-star, and won the league batting title with a .544 average. In the fall, Kirk returned to Owens Community College to continue his development and learning. But Kirk's biggest takeaway from the season with the Baysox was that he saw progress and passion for the game growing within Owen Sound, and he decided he wanted to get involved and give back to the community where his baseball journey began.
This led Kirk to begin OS Baseball Training, and start giving lessons.
During the 2023/24 Offseason, Kirk will be hosting a baseball day camp from January 2-4 at the Kemble Arena. He hopes to continue to offer training opportunities for Owen Sound & Area youths for years to come. Kirk is also planning to join the OSMB Executive Committee.
