Congrats to the 2024 WOBA Award Winners
Hey Hawks / Jr Baysox,
Last night the WOBA Board & Representatives met to review and vote on the nominees for the 2024 WOBA Awards. Winners of the WOBA Awards will be forwarded along to Baseball Ontario to be considered for the OBA Award in their category. We're happy to announce, and ask you to join us in congratulating, the following OSMBA members recognized as WOBA Award Winners for the 2024 season...
2024 - WOBA Coach of the Year
Scott Macleod
Scott was Head Coach for the 11U WOBA League Team 1 for the 2024. Always encouraging the players, while working to help them develop their baseball and teamwork skills, the players on Team 1 were lucky to have Scott as their coach. In addition to coaching at the 11U level, Scott also accepted the role of VP of House League for the 2024 season, providing support for coaches and convenors alike across house league, with particular attention to our 5U Learn-to-play and 7U Coach-pitch divisions. Scott also stepped up as Convenor for the 11U Rep Battle on the Bay Tournament held in Owen Sound / Georgian Bluffs. His dedication and willingness to do whatever it takes to support OSMBA is truly remarkable. Congratulations Scott on a well-deserved recognition.
2024 - WOBA Junior Umpire of the Year
Jack Muzzell
If you were around the OSMBA baseball diamonds in 2024, you probably had the pleasure of seeing Jack. As one of the busiest junior umpires this season (umping 25 games, including 18 OBA games which included taking on a lead roll during our Battle on the Bay Rep Tournament), Jack's dedication and leadership on the field was on full display during a year of strong development. In addition to umping, Jack also played 15U local league and was a member of our 15U Select Jr Baysox team. This young man has baseball in his blood, and we're excited to see him continue to develop in the years ahead. Congratulations Jack! Keep it up!
2024 - WOBA Team of the Year
Owen Sound Baysox (Sr.)
What a year for baseball in Owen Sound, and the Sr Baysox Team continued to play a vital role in growing the game. Finishing 2nd in the NDBL regular season standings, the Sr Baysox followed up a strong regular season by winning the 2024 Strother Cup (NDBL Championship). Home games at Tom Williams were always a local event, with as many as 200-300 fans and OSMBA players showing up in support.
In addition to playing strong baseball of their own, 2 members of the Sr Baysox helped coach our 11U Jr Baysox OBA Rep Team, and many other members of the team volunteered to help support OSMBA tournaments and clinics / practices. Congratulations to Coach Don Bartley, player/coach Ryan Bartley, and the entire 2024 Owen Sound Sr Baysox team!
