9U (Rookie Ball) (age 8 and 9)
This age group plays rookie ball, where the ball is thrown by a pitching machine. They play games in the WOBA, which means there is some travel involved. These games have rules designed to support the development of baseball at this age. This group plays on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. Out of town games depend on diamond availability in that centre.
11U (Mosquito) (age 10 and 11)
This is where players are introduced to live pitching for the first time and where base stealing begins. There are a few modifications to the rules to assist in the development of the game, but looks very similar to what the Blue Jays play. They play games in the WOBA, which means there is some travel involved. Out of town games depend on diamond availability in that centre.
Home diamond days are Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.
13U (PeeWee) (age 12 and 13)
This is full baseball, minus the mound. They play games in the WOBA, which means there is some travel involved. Out of town games depend on diamond availability in that centre. Home diamond times are Sunday evening and Tuesday evenings.
15U (Bantam) (age 14 and 15)
Welcome to the pitcher's mound. They play games in the WOBA, which means there is some travel involved. Out of town games depend on diamond availability in that centre. Home diamond times are Monday and Wednesday evenings.
18U (Midget) (age 16, 17 and 18)
This 3 year age group plays games in the WOBA, which means there is some travel involved. Out of town games depend on diamond availability in that centre. Home diamond times are Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Bats are wood or wood-composite.
Home diamond is Tom Williams
22U (Junior)
While OSMB does not currently offer a 22U program, Baseball Ontario does support youth baseball at the 22U level. As our program continues to grow, we hope to one day see a 22U baseball program established in Owen Sound. The 22U / Junior program would compete as a member of the NDBL (North Dufferin Baseball League) - which offers baseball at the 22U (Junior) and 23+(Senior) levels.
As baseball is a summer sport that can be faced with days of extreme heat, please see the
attached file here for questions about Playing in the Heat.
